For once, Atlético won its La Liga match on Sunday against Alavés (2-1), without needing the talent of its star player, Antoine Griezmann.
Already author of 7 goals in La Liga and 2 in the Champions League, Antoine Griezmann did not improve his statistics on Sunday evening with Atlético de Madrid. He was also barely visible during 81 minutes of play, which did not prevent Diego Simeone’s Colchoneros from winning against Alavés (2-1), Sunday evening at Civitas Metropolitano.
The men of “Cholo” attacked the match hard and it was Rodrigo Riquelme, the left piston of the team, who found the fault by deceiving a somewhat faulty opposing goalkeeper (26th). Alvaro Morata, decidedly untenable, doubled the lead (45th+1), to score his 6th goal in La Liga. “Grizi” thought of scoring the net in the second half but his goal was quickly canceled for a foul on the action (71st).
Atlético remains 3rd in the standings, three points behind the leader, Real Madrid, before a fairly affordable next match, against Las Palmas, traveling to the island of Gran Canaria. The Basques of Alavés are 17th.
