Chelsea, the relapse

After four games without defeat in all competitions, Chelsea fell back into their old ways this Saturday. The Blues lost at home against Brentford (0-2, 10th day of the Premier League).

The English patient is therefore still not cured. Author of a disastrous start to the season, Chelsea seemed to have finally found the remedy to their wanderings. Undefeated since September 27, Mauricio Pochettino’s men had three wins and one draw in all competitions. But this Saturday, during the reception of Brentford, the Londoners stalled again (0-2, 10th day of the Premier League).

Facing a direct opponent in the standings (Brentford were two points behind Chelsea before kick-off), the Blues took the match into their own hands. 67% possession in the first half and five times more shots than their opponents. The problem is that they only scored twice (compared to one for the visitors). Not enough to hope to take the lead. For their part, the Bees bent without breaking and patiently waited for their moment.

Mbeumo drives the point home

And when it arrived, the “Bees” sting. Just before the hour mark, Pinnock opened the scoring for the visitors (0-1, 58th). A blow to Chelsea who never found the means to come back. And almost as expected, it was Brentford who had the last word with a second and final goal in the game, on a counter smoothly led by Maupay, decisive passer for Mbeumo (0-2, 90th + 6).

In the provisional Premier League standings, Brentford passes its victim of the day and finds itself tenth, with one more point. Chelsea are eleventh, with three wins, three draws and four defeats on the clock. The Londoners’ difficult season continues.
