UEFA index: France strikes a big blow!

RC Lens-PSV Eindhoven: this is the match not to be lost and the one which symbolizes the fratricidal struggle between France and the Netherlands. By managing to obtain the point of the draw, Lens showed PSV and the Netherlands that maintaining 5th place in the UEFA index over five years was the number 1 objective of French clubs and that they would do anything do to achieve this.

However, with 2.769 points behind the Dutch on the starting line, things were off to a bad start. But in a few weeks, the French clubs have launched their European campaign perfectly and are all still in the race to continue the adventure next spring. This week alone, there are 4 victories (PSG, Rennes, OM, Lille), a draw (Lens) and only one defeat, and still logical for TFC against Liverpool (5-1).

A Dutch lead hanging by a thread

As a result, France is only 0.769 points behind halfway through the group stages of the various European competitions. And the Netherlands can fear the worst for the next deadlines. PSV can still do well in the LdC and will also host Lens in a very important match while Feyenoord is also in a good position. But what can we say about Ajax who are in crisis and last in their group in the Europa League. A bleak situation also for AZ Alkmaar who are taking on water from all sides in the Conference League and who took a scathing 1-4 on their home pitch against Aston Villa.

France is therefore in a perfect position and could regain its fifth place even before the end of the group stage if it maintains the same pace. Enough to allow its representatives to have four qualifiers in the Champions League next season (three directly and one in the preliminary round) and seven representatives in total on the European scene. Enough to put a smile back on your face while still remaining cautious…
