Jadon Sancho remains out of favor at Manchester United, and the full – and somewhat bizarre – details of his exile at Old Trafford have been revealed.
The England international winger last appeared in a Manchester United shirt in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on August 26, with 30 minutes of playing time on the bench in that encounter. Sancho did not feature in the Red Devils’ next match – a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal – and Erik ten Hag said of his decision to leave out the 23-year-old: ” We didn’t select him because of his performance in training. You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United.” Sancho reacted to the comment on social media, saying accusations of a lack of effort in training were “completely false” and that he had been made a “scapegoat” for some time.
Sancho has not played for United since drawing the wrath of Ten Hag and questioning the demanding Dutch tactician’s treatment of him. The Red Devils boss would like an apology in person before softening his stance and considering reinstating Sancho into the squad. Sancho was not asked to apologize in front of his teammates, but United said in a statement on September 14 that he would remain absent from first-team training. pending resolution of a disciplinary problem within the team.”
While working away from the senior team at United’s Carrington training center, Sancho carried out solo sessions or linked up with the club’s academy players. He would be forced to lock himself in the academy changing rooms due to shielding guidelines, to ensure he did not mix with underage players.
As well as being banned from first-team training, Sancho is also reportedly banned from United’s canteen. Rather than mingling with his colleagues who are going about their business, the English winger has his meal brought to him via the footbridge which connects the academy and senior facilities. Sancho then has to eat from a box before going home.
