Premier League threatens Everton with withdrawal of points

Problems are piling up for Everton. Defeated on the pitch at Liverpool (2-0) last weekend, the Toffees fell back into their mistakes and are struggling to take off in the rankings. While the sporting situation remains worrying, the Mersey club is in the crosshairs of the Premier League. According to The Telegraph, the latter requires a withdrawal of twelve points for Everton! The reason ? The Liverpool-based outfit are accused of breaching Financial Fair Play rules after recording losses of £371.8 million (around €400 million) over the past three years.

As a reminder, Premier League rules allow clubs to lose a maximum of 105 million pounds over three years. However, clubs were authorized to absorb losses linked to the Covid-19 episode. It is on this point that the residents of Goodison Park are counting “vigorously defend” their position. Note that the Toffees declared that around £170 million (or €200 million) was due to the pandemic. The British tabloid adds that an independent commission is currently studying Everton’s situation and should rule on its fate by the end of the year. A number of other sanctions could also be imposed by this commission, ranging from a simple fine to a ban on recruiting.
