The English club Newcastle does not want to be penalized by a possible long-term suspension of Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle United are studying their legal options while awaiting Sandro Tonali’s betting verdict.
Newcastle blame Milan for Tonali
The midfielder is expected to be handed a 10-month playing ban by local Italian prosecutors for placing illegal bets. Il Corriere dello Sport claims Newcastle have threatened to sue Tonali’s former club AC Milan.
Toon leaders are said to be furious at Tonali’s likely suspension. Newcastle paid AC Milan more than €70 million to sign the midfielder last summer. The bet dates back to the time when Tonali was still in Rossonerri colors.
Newcastle want to avoid paying Tonali’s salary during the suspension period. He earns 8 million euros net per season. Juventus, on the other hand, chose to continue paying Nicolò Fagioli, who received a seven-month suspension.
