Sandro Tonali is in turmoil. Like other players playing in Italy, the Newcastle midfielder is at the heart of a case linked to sports betting which has been shaking up sports news on the other side of the Alps for several weeks. After having collaborated with the Italian justice system, notably recognizing having bet on AC Milan at the time when he played in Lombardy, the transalpine international (17 caps) is still awaiting his trial.
This Wednesday, Sky Italia informs that the 23-year-old player could ultimately receive a ten-month suspension after having reached an alleged agreement with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and not 12 months as expected by the transalpine media last week. At the same time, the native of Lodi could follow a “rehabilitation course” lasting eight months. In this scenario, Sandro Tonali could be deprived of Euro 2024 if the Squadra Azzurra qualifies.
