Sunday, Aston Villa confirmed its status as a candidate for Europe by defeating West Ham in front of its home crowd (4-1). One more victory for Emery’s men who are still in 5th place in the standings. But during the meeting, an incident of play had the gift of annoying Jamie Carragher. Nicolo Zaniolo, hit in the head, collapsed to the ground, gaining precious minutes as the Irons pushed to come back into the lead. A method which should be better sanctioned by the Premier League according to the consultant.

“I’ve had enough of this. People treat head injuries. The referee may not know it, but he saw the duel, he knows everything is fine. This spoils the game. Players fall when they lose the ball in a dangerous position. It’s not a duel. That does not make any sense”, deplores Jamie Carragher. He pursues : “He knows the game will have to be stopped. The referee feels like he has to blow the whistle. This has to stop, it happens too often.” If the Italian was perhaps really hit in the head, it is true that many take advantage of these moments of hesitation to allow their team to breathe.
