Messi, it's over

Lionel Messi played his last match of the season with Inter Miami last night.

Lionel Messi is done with the North American Championship. Saturday evening, on the pitch at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte (North Carolina), the 36-year-old Argentine striker played the last match of the regular season with the Inter Miami jersey.

Already eliminated from the race for the Major League Soccer (MLS) play-offs, the Florida franchise lost 1-0 and finished penultimate in the Eastern Conference. Lionel Messi, recruited by Miami last summer, has a record of six matches played in the Championship, one goal and two assists.

The statistics of the 2022 world champion are more brilliant, on the other hand, in the Leagues Cup: 10 goals in 7 matches. “La Pulga” is not yet really finished with competition in 2023.

The Argentine selection must play two matches between now and the end of the year: against Uruguay and Brazil, on November 17 and 22, counting for qualifications for the 2026 World Cup.
