After the international break, the Premier League returned this Saturday afternoon with a first historic shock. In an Anfield that was still full, Liverpool hosted Everton for the Mersey derby. On paper this meeting was attractive even if it involved two teams with very different forms. The Reds had the opportunity to take the lead in the standings in the event of a victory (while waiting for the other matches) while the Toffees were in 16th place.

And in this meeting, logic was respected. Dominant, Liverpool ended up winning thanks to a double from Mohamed Salah (2-0). The first on a converted penalty then the second in the last seconds on a counter attack (90th + 8). In the first half, Ashley Young, guilty of two sanctioned fouls, was sent off and thus left Everton at 10 for more than an hour of play. Liverpool therefore took the three points and the head of the Premier League standings. Everton are still in trouble.
