Bayern Munich claim to have had “detailed and clarified” conversations with Noussair Mazraoui after the full-back expressed his support for Palestine.
The Moroccan international posted pro-Palestinian messages on Instagram after Israel’s attacks on Gaza in response to a surprise attack earlier this month.
Comments on social media sparked reports that Mazraoui’s future at Bayern is under threat, but the club attempted to ease tensions by meeting with him after he returned from international duty.
Bayern released a statement containing a message from the full-back: “ I condemn all terrorism and all terrorist organizations.”
The club press release added: “ FC Bayern Munich had a detailed and clarifying conversation with Noussair Mazraoui this week. The reason for this discussion was Mazraoui’s Instagram posts in relation to the terror against Israel almost two weeks ago, which led to irritation and criticism.
“FC Bayern and Noussair Mazraoui strongly oppose the transfer of the conflict in the Middle East and its violence to Germany, which is committed to peace. Hatred and violence of any kind have no place in Germany’s political culture.
“FC Bayern stands with the Jewish community in Germany and with Israel; nothing justifies the murder of children and families.
“FC Bayern believes that football must unleash its power of reconciliation between different cultures, especially in the most difficult times.”
Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen added: “Noussair Mazraoui credibly assured us that as a peaceful person, he resolutely rejected terror and war and that he never intended to cause irritation with his messages. FC Bayern condemns Hamas attack on Israel.”
The Bundesliga champions added that the 25-year-old would not be left out of the squad but was unavailable to play against Mainz on Saturday due to injury
