Joining FC Barcelona was not German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan’s priority.
Ikay Gundogan was set to stay at Manchester City last summer. He then joined FC Barcelona, but it was a little reluctantly.
Gundogan disappointed with Man City management
The former City captain left England’s Barcelona during the summer transfer window following the expiration of his lease with the Eastlands. Catalan daily Sport, however, claims that Gundogan was willing to extend his stay in the northwest of England.
The source claims that City delayed the start of talks with the former BVB man for a long time. The latter had asked for his case to be sealed before the World Cup in Qatar but he was not heard.
Furthermore, Gundogan was eyeing a two-year contract, while City only offered a one-season lease. Both parties remained in their respective positions until the end and that is why the player ended up packing his bags and committing to the Blaugrana.
