It’s a trajectory that was not the one expected for Youssoufa Moukoko. Impressive by his precocity, regularly outclassed and considered a great hope since he was 13, the Borussia Dortmund striker quickly got his chance as expected. Launched at 16, selected with Germany at 17, he did not have immense playing time, but seemed to be gaining strength with the Marsupials. More of a luxury joker last year, he still played nearly 1,600 minutes in a promising season with 7 goals and 6 goals in 35 games. This even convinced him last January to extend his lease until June 2026.
Convinced by the management of his progress by Edin Terzic, he has seen his situation take a much more complicated turn in recent weeks. A loan was even considered at the very end of the last transfer window. And for good reason, his playing time is starving. With six matches under his belt, but only 66 minutes of play for a goal in the German Cup against Schott Mainz (6-1), Youssoufa Moukoko no longer fits into the plans of the Bosnian coach who only used him 5 minutes in the last 5 BvB matches.
A price of 35 to 40 million euros
A short playing time which contrasts with his last appearances with the German U21 team. In September, he scored a double against Kosovo (3-0). On October 13, he even scored a hat-trick against Bulgaria (3-2). Performances which denote his sporting situation at club where the competition from Niclas Füllkrug and Sébastien Haller leaves him only crumbs. According to information from Bild, this could change quickly since the player would like to leave Borussia Dortmund this winter. Borussia Dortmund would also wait between 35 and 40 million euros to sell their player.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl delivered a different speech when questioned by the West German Allgemeine Zeitung : “neither the club nor Youssoufa are thinking about the winter transfer window now. We had very open discussions this summer after the signing of Niclas Füllkrug. Of course he hopes for more playing time, but the squad is very quantitative, there are many other players who would also like more playing time. As for Youssoufa, I can say that he accepts it 100 percent, that he puts in the effort in training and that he works hard on himself. We will still need him. We believe in him too.” A message to support the player, but which clearly contrasts with his situation which is becoming very complicated at Borussia Dortmund.
