The 2023 Ballon d’Or will be known in just ten days. Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland are the two big favorites and the suspense is still there even if the Spanish press revealed that La Pulga was going to lift its 8th Ballon d’Or soon. Asked about the future winner, Pep Guardiola, Haaland’s coach, and former coach of Messi at Barça, was keen to defend the Norwegian striker, even if he recognizes that seeing LM10 win would not be a theft.
“I have always said that the Ballon d’Or should be separated into two sections. One for Messi and one for the others. Haaland should win yes and yes. We won the treble, he scored a million goals. I would love for Erling to win. But of course Messi… The worst of the worst of his seasons is the best of the other players. Leo won the World Cup! Both deserve it.”
