It is on a good note that the Blues ended a very successful October gathering. With a success in Amsterdam against the Netherlands (2-1), the France team punched its ticket for Euro 2024, before signing another exciting victory a few days later, in Lille, in a friendly match against Scotland (4-1).
This result bore the signature of Benjamin Pavard. Very comfortable on the pitch of his training club, the 2018 world champion, repositioned in central defense, was the author of a double in this meeting. This match will therefore remain an important date in the international career of the defender, which took a bad turn last December, when Didier Deschamps voluntarily made the choice to opt for other players at the right-back position after a very delicate evening against Australia.
A problem between these two world champions?
If Benjamin Pavard’s attitude has not been called into question, some sources still point the finger at the behavior of the defender in the group during this World Cup. This is the case of the media Catalunya Radio. In the Barça Reservat podcast, this Catalan radio returned to the soap opera which linked Pavard to FC Barcelona last summer, indicating that it was Ousmane Dembélé, then still at Barça, who would have dissuaded his coach Xavi from recruiting Benjamin Pavard.
The two players played on the right side for a long time in the French team before Jules Koundé, Dembélé’s former teammate at the Blaugrana, moved to this position. Benjamin Pavard finally joined Inter Milan. And his first months certainly confirm his choice.
