Thanks to his first goal since his arrival in Brazil, Dimitri Payet gave Vasco da Gama victory on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.

Arrived as a rock star Vasco da Gama this summer, Dimitri Payet started its Brazilian adventure with a reduced pace and had only exceeded 45 minutes played in a single match once (against Coritiba on September 22). Despite this, his arrival in South America coincided with the resurgence of form of the Rio club who have lost only one of their last seven matches while they were 18th when the former Marseillais set foot in Rio.

During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the former French international (38 caps, 8 goals) showed progress in his form by playing 76 minutes against Fortaleza, but above all proved decisive. Shortly before the hour mark, the 36-year-old opened the scoring with a left-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area. The only goal of this meeting, the first from Reunion, allows Vasco to win and temporarily leave the red zone, 11 matches from the end of the season.

A performance which allowed Payet to receive a nice ovation from his new audience and, as during his time at West Ham, a song in his likeness from the aisles of the São Januário Stadium.
