Author of a double against Scotland, the defender of the France team, Benjamin Pavard, was very satisfied to play the match in the axis of the Blues’ defense.
Lined up in central defense by Didier Deschamps on Tuesday against Scotland (4-1), Benjamin Pavard did not miss the mark. Indeed, the former Lille player distinguished himself by scoring a double, but also by showing himself to be very solid defensively. A meeting during which, the native of Maubeuge, a trained central defender who revealed himself to the world in the role of right back during the World Cup in Russia, in 2018, was able to recover his preferred position, for the duration of a friendly match against Steve Clarke’s men at the Pierre Mauroy stadium.
“It’s the journalists who want to put pressure on me”
The performance of the former Bavarian did not surprise his teammate, striker Olivier Giroud. “I’m super happy for him. And then first appearance in the axis, and he even ends up with the armbar. It’s great for him and for the team. (…) He is capable of evolving in this position. He does it very well at Inter Milan, even though it’s a three-man defense. We have a pretty incredible talent pool. It’s great for the team. Competition pulls us up.”
The main person concerned also showed a certain confidence after this new victory for the Blues. “It’s the journalists who want to put pressure on me. I am sure of myself. I’m really good in this position.”, declared Pavard at the microphone of TF1. It now remains to be seen whether the former Stuttgart player will once again be entrusted with the keys to the French defense by the Bayonne technician.
