FC Barcelona want to offer Frenkie de Jong a contract until the end of his career, but it remains to be seen whether he will be willing to sign such a deal.
According to Sport, FC Barcelona hopes to convince De Jong to make a long-term commitment to the club by offering him a contract that would tie him to Barça for life. However, such a deal would involve a staggered pay deal, with De Jong first having to take a two-year pay cut.
His current contract ends in 2026 and he has already been the subject of several offers. Man Utd have been linked with him in each of the last two summers. In 2021, Barcelona were open to a deal, which apparently soured their relationship with the player, who was reportedly unwilling to take a pay cut. This has complicated things regarding his future at Barca, although he remains a key player for Xavi.
De Jong made 190 appearances for FC Barcelona, scoring 16 goals and providing 21 assists. He also earned 54 caps with the Netherlands.
