Merciless record Bleuets with Cyprus

In the Euro qualifiers, the France Espoirs team made short work of Cyprus this Tuesday (9-0).

After its difficult trip to Bosnia last week, the French junior team had a much quieter evening this Tuesday when they hosted Cyprus. At the Stade des Alpes in Grenoble, Thierry Henry’s men won with a clear score of 9-0.

Cornflowers applied from start to finish

Clinics at the forefront, the Bleuets therefore left no chance to their opponents of the day. The debates were even over after one half with four goals scored without a single goal taken.

Arnaud Kalimuendo was particularly lively. The Rennes center forward, aligned alongside Elye Wahi in attack, scored twice (30e and 45e). The Monegasque Akliouche also found the net in this first period (39e), while the opener was scored by a Cypriot against his side (Antoniou, 13e).

Kalimuendo didn’t just score. He also became a decisive passer during the second act. At 57e minute, he served Matsima for the 5-0 goal following a mix-up in the area.

Cherki got his class talking

Pushed by their coach, the Bleuets continued to put pressure on the Cypriots until the end. A seriousness which allowed them to add to the bill on four other occasions. Rayan Cherki reaped the rewards of his magnificent performance with three decisive moves. By scoring in the 65th and 80th, including an exceptional second goal after a nice individual number. And also by delivering a corner on the head of Mathys Tel (70e). The Lyonnais also did not fail to reward the Grenoble public with a few arabesques, before leaving to a standing ovation in the 82nd minute. Tel, who scored just after coming on, then had the honor of closing the score with a final goal in stoppage time.

9-0, a magnificent festival and which constitutes the largest victory in the history of the Bleuets. The previous record dated from 1985 against Yugoslavia (7-0). It was just before the band’s triumph at the Euro Espoirs in Sauzée. A sign for the future? While waiting to climb to the roof of Europe, France is consolidating its leadership position in its group. It has the same number of points as Slovenia (2e), but with one match less.
