Although he was not present at the Stade du Roi-Baudoin on Tuesday, Thomas Meunier reacted to the attack which led to the end of Belgium’s match against Sweden.
Belgium has once again been overtaken by terrorism. A man armed with an assault rifle and traveling on a scooter in the streets of Brussels opened fire shortly before kick-off of the Euro qualifiers match between Belgium and Sweden, killing two Swedish fans . Also affected, a taxi driver was injured but is out of danger.
If the match was able to start normally, it was stopped at the break while the two teams were tied (1-1) and the spectators were invited to stay within the confines of the Stade du Roi-Baudoin for more than two hours. The terrorist had in fact indicated in a video that he wanted to go to the stadium to cause other victims. If the suspect, Abdesalem L., a 45-year-old man of Tunisian origin who lives in the Brussels commune of Schaerbeek, has still not been found, the stadium was able to be gradually evacuated, the Swedish supporters being escorted until the airport.
These events made Thomas Meunier react, on the sidelines for several months and deprived of the gathering of the Red Devils. The Dortmund player actually wanted to express his concern on Twitter. “And the worst is undoubtedly to come… Let us pray for the victims and the people badly influenced by the erroneous teaching of a religion. May God help them find the right path,” he wrote in the caption of a Belgian flag crossed out with #PRAYFORBELGIUM, #PRAYFORTHEWORLD.
And the worst is probably yet to come… let’s have a prayer for the victims and the people badly influenced by the wrong teaching of a religion. May God help them to find the right way. #BelgiumForever pic.twitter.com/sEru6R8rIZ
