Argentina are seeking new World Cup glory and would like Lionel Messi to emulate Diego Maradona by attending a crucial rugby semi-final.

Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi cemented his position alongside Maradona by inspiring his country to global glory in world football at Qatar 2022. The South American nation is now hoping to repeat the feat with a different shaped balloon.

Argentina have qualified for the final four of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, and the Pumas now prepare for an epic clash with the mighty All Blacks of New Zealand. They will enjoy widespread support in Paris, but former PSG star Messi is unlikely to return to the French capital as he is currently on an international trip.

Argentine veteran Agustin Creevy told reporters he had extended an invitation to his illustrious compatriot: “If Messi could come now, we would be delighted. But I don’t think he can come because he plays in Miami. In 2015 Maradona was retired, it was easy for him to come and stay with us. He’s the best player I’ve ever met in my life. He sang with us, he gave a speech, everything. It was really important to us. »
