This Monday morning, the Noussair Mazraoui case is shaking Germany. It is not for his performances in the Bayern Munich jersey that the Moroccan international is talked about, but for his position in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This weekend, he used his official and personal social networks to send a few messages as others have been able to do for a little over a week. He first published a Surah from the Koran concerning the acts committed by the “unjust”. Then, he shared a video supporting the “oppressed brothers in Palestine to achieve victory“.
A position that disturbs Germany
The Lion of the Atlas also commented with the word “Amine” accompanied by an emoji with his hands folded in prayer. Finally, he broadcast a montage of various content published by several Moroccan players, including himself. “Moroccan national team players Aboukhlal, Ziyech, Mazraoui and Sabiri all showed their support for Palestine in their stories (Instagram, editor’s note). But you can only see the stories if you go to their profiles. They are trying to silence us. It’s literally us against the WORLD! »
This position was not at all appreciated in Germany. Bild has also multiplied the articles and attacks against Mazraoui. It all started with a first paper published last night with the following title: “Supporters of terrorism on the pitch? Unbearable!” Then, Bild then added: “The Bundesliga is planning a memorial campaign for the victims of Hamas terrorism for the next day. Is it conceivable that there is a player on the field at that moment who supports this terror? The mass death of innocent people? It would be unbearable!” The German media then used very strong words.
Serious accusations
“This is why Bayern player Noussair Mazraoui (25) must clearly distance himself from the bloody acts of Hamas and explain why he welcomes the hateful slogans of an account that calls for the annihilation of Israel . If Mazraoui refuses to distance himself convincingly, he will no longer be able to play in the championship. Then there must be consequences from FC Bayern, whose Jewish president Kurt Landauer, had to flee the Nazis. Footballers do not necessarily have to be saints, but they are role models for children and young people. Whether they like it or not. A supporter of terrorism can never be a role model.”
Very serious accusations. In Morocco, there is talk of slander following this article by Bild. The player also spoke out following this controversy. “First of all, I would like to say that it is really disappointing to have to explain what I stand for. There is a situation in which thousands of innocent people are being murdered. My position is that I will work for peace and justice in this world. This means that I will always be against all kinds of terrorism, hatred and violence. And that’s something I will always support.”
Mazraoui defends himself
He later added: “That’s why I don’t understand why people think the opposite of me and why I’m associated with hate groups. Today, it’s not about what I think or what you think, innocent people are being killed every day by this terrible conflict that has spiraled out of control. We must all oppose it. This is simply inhumane. Finally, I would like to clarify that I never intended to offend or harm anyone, consciously or unconsciously.” But his words did not convince everyone across the Rhine. Bild indicated that he did not mention Hamas. For its part, Bayern Munich does not wish to communicate further on the subject.
But the matter is far from over. Indeed, MP Johannes Steiniger wrote on “X” about him: “Kurt Landauer’s club, which the Nazis called the “Jewish club”, cannot stop there. Dear FC Bayern, please expel him immediately. Furthermore, all state options must be used to expel him from Germany.” Some are therefore calling for the head of Noussair Mazraoui. Other media, such as Sport1, did not overwhelm the player. But the German publication wonders if this will have consequences on the Bavarian locker room, where Mazraoui must live with Israeli international goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.
