Lamine Yamal “can be the next” superstar of FC Barcelona, believes Rafa Marquez, who compares the young prodigy to Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi.
At just 16 years old, La Masia graduate Yamal is already part of the Camp Nou first team and has broken records for his precociousness in the Spanish national team. This young talent seems to have the world at his feet.
Barca legend Rafa Marquez, who currently manages the Catalan club’s B team, believes Yamal has the potential to follow in the footsteps of some great players who won the World Cup. The Mexican icon told Mundo Deportivo: “He belongs to that group of gifted boys who have innate talent and who, regardless of their age, can compete in any category and make a difference. Ronaldinho, Messi… Lamine can be next. He has all the qualities. Of course, we have to be careful with the processes, because it’s still a child.
Yamal is not the only teenager to have broken into Barça’s first team, Fermin Lopez having also passed through the B team to fit into Xavi’s plans. Marquez added: ” It is surprising. I didn’t get him last year, but he had to leave to realize he had a big opportunity to be in the club. We are all happy with this development and the fact that Xavi appreciates it so much.
