Fifteenth in the Bundesliga and defeated by Darmstadt, during the last weekend before the international break, Augsburg decided to thank their coach Enrico Maaßen. The 39-year-old German technician, who notably worked for Borussia Dortmund but also for SV Rödinghausen and SV Drochtersen/Assel, has therefore paid for the poor results of his team since the start of the season. After this hasty departure, the leaders of Augsburg were also looking for the rare pearl to take over from him.
The management of the German club finally set its sights on Jess Thorup. The 53-year-old Danish technician, who has already coached with more or less success a team from his native country, FC Midtjylland, before heading to Belgium to take the reins of KAA Gent then returning to Denmark to take charge of FC Copenhagen as well as the Danish national under-20 and under-21 teams. The latter has also signed a contract with the FCA until June 2025.
