Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has once again spoken out about racism in La Liga and in Spanish society.

The Brazil international has been subjected to racist abuse from crowds during La Liga matches on numerous occasions over the past 12 months.

These incidents have sparked significant support for Vinicius Jr in the football world, but there remain inexplicable allegations that the 23-year-old is partly responsible for the insults.

Vinicius Jr was asked about a specific incident of racist chanting by Valencia supporters at the end of last season and he admitted to being frustrated by the lack of sanction against Los Che.

The incident was reignited in recent days following shocking coverage published by Valencia-based newspaper Superdeporte following Vinicius Jr’s statement in the case, with three supporters on trial over the incident.

“It happened several times, and in Valencia, in a blatant and public way. I felt a lot of sadness. I’m on the ground to make people happy“, declared Vinicius Junior in an interview with L’Equipe.

“I reached out to people who have studied racism, people whose families went through difficult times, people who are familiar with slavery. I also read a lot.

“If someone insults you in a way that hurts you, you have to fight. Until things change.

“I know that I will not change history, that I will not make Spain a country without racists, nor the whole world. But I know I can change some things.”

Vinicius Jr is currently on international duty with Brazil for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header, including a match against Uruguay on October 17.
