Maignan, the shattering declaration

Mike Maignan conceded his first goal during the Euro 2024 qualifiers, in which he is far from flawless. But he is the best goalkeeper in the world in the eyes of Lucas Hernandez.

Even in a generally very controlled evening, with a victory (1-2) which allowed the French team to validate its qualification for Euro 2024 after only six matches, there are always little things to complain about for the Blues.

Impeccable during his first five outings, where he kept a clean sheet, Mike Maignan failed to bring back a sixth consecutive clean sheet from Amsterdam. At the end of the match, the French goalkeeper gave in to a shot without an angle from the Dutch full-back Quilindschy Hartman, where he was surprised at the near post.

If we add a few imperfect ball catches, Maignan overall produced a fairly disappointing copy. This even makes two negative matches for him, after his red card received last weekend with AC Milan. However, the former Lille player retains the complete confidence of his teammates.

“I think there is no one better than him, he is number 1 in the world, assured Lucas Hernandez on TF1. We are lucky to have him in the selection, now we are going to face him at club (during PSG-Milan, editor’s note). He’s a great goalkeeper. This serenity he has and this security he shows… We hope he will continue like this. Its very important. He reassures us. »
