Cristiano Ronaldo set himself a ridiculous target of 1,000 goals before retiring, after scoring a brace against Slovakia.
The talismanic striker rose to the occasion to qualify Portugal for Euro 2024 by scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Slovakia. Thanks to his double on Friday evening, he can boast of having scored 125 goals for the national team and 857 in his career.
However, Ronaldo, who celebrated his 38th birthday last February, has no plans to hang up his boots and has set himself the ambitious goal of scoring 1,000 goals.
Jorge Nuno Pinto, the president of FC Porto, bet him that he would score 1,000 goals and the striker immediately took up the challenge.
“It will be quite difficult, but it’s a question of mindset and motivation. If, physically, my legs treat me as well as I treat them? We will see, these are small steps. To get to 1,000, you first have to get to 900. I think I’ll get there,” he said during the conversation.
Ronaldo has reportedly expressed his desire to sign an extension with Al-Nassr which would keep him in Saudi Arabia until 2027. This means that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would see himself wearing the colors of the Selecao not only in the European Cup. next summer, but also during the 2026 World Cup which will be jointly organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
If he continues to find the net at this rate, the player could reach the goal of 1000 goals.
