Former French international Marcel Desailly has questioned Luis Enrique’s coaching skills.

Inducted into the head of PSG last summer, Luis Enrique has had a mixed start in the French capital. The Spanish coach has only won half of the matches he has managed and has already suffered two memorable defeats. The one against Nice and also the one against Newcastle in the Champions League.

“Luis Enrique made a mistake”

At Saint-James Park, the former La Roja coach surprised by aligning an attack with four elements. A bad choice on which he persisted, changing nothing during the game. Coaching which earned him a lot of criticism at the time and which continues to provoke external attacks.

In an interview with Gambling Zone, Frenchman Marcel Desailly took the liberty of carving out the Iberian technician. “Newcastle were magnificent against PSG, but if we look at the match in depth, we realize that PSG allowed them to express themselves at the highest possible level,” confided the 1998 world champion. Luis Enrique committed the mistake of going to St James’ Park with four attacking players, none of whom understood the intensity Newcastle planned.

Former OM player and winner of the C1 with the Phocéens in 1993, Desailly admitted that he was rather happy to see the Parisians take a suitcase with the Magpies. “They haven’t participated in the Champions League for twenty years and suddenly they are here! I don’t know how far Newcastle will go, but I was very happy to see them play like they did against PSG. This wasn’t supposed to happen, because quality players can play with high pressure and opposing teams can’t handle ninety minutes of pressure on defenses. Despite the result, Newcastle had 29% of the ball. It’s an incredible result.”
