Winner of Slovakia this Friday and qualified for Euro 2024, Roberto Martinez’s Portugal is increasingly impressing.

The failed World Cup Portugaleliminated in the quarter-final against the Moroccowill have marked a turning point in the recent history of the selection since it led to the ousting of Fernando Santos after eight years and 109 matches which allowed him to become the first coach to win a major trophy (Euro 2016) with the Seleçao, to which was added the 2022 Nations League.

Martinez takes care of his debut

The task will therefore not be easy for his successors Roberto Martinez. The former Belgium coach, appointed in January, negotiated his debut with his new selection rather well. This Friday, he led his 7th match on the Portugal bench, all in qualifying for Euro 2024. And once again, Martinez’s players won (3-2) against Slovakia and officially validated his ticket for Euro 2024 in Germany.

This victory confirms the almost perfect course of Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates in his qualifiers and since the arrival of Martinez, who therefore has seven victories in as many matches at the head of Portugal. With big victories against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, the Portuguese have impressive figures including an average of 3.85 goals scored per match and only two goals conceded, i.e. an average of 0.28 goals per match.
