On a sporting level, everything is going well at FC Barcelona. After 9 days of La Liga, the reigning Spanish champion is in 3rd place, 3 units behind its rival, Real Madrid. In the Champions League, the Catalan club started its European campaign on the right foot and has two victories in as many matches played. But from a financial point of view, the situation is different and Barça is forced to take drastic measures by reducing the salaries of the stars who make up the Catalan locker room. As such, Sport revealed this Friday the biggest salaries of Xavi Hernandez’s squad.
Within this ranking, Frenkie De Jong takes the lead with a gross annual salary of €37.5 million. With a little more than €20 million, Robert Lewandowski, recruited last season from Bayern Munich and author of a first exercise accomplished with the Blaugranas, follows him while Ilkay Gündogan, newly arrived free this summer, completes the podium with €18.75 million. The Frenchman Jules Koundé, whose emoluments are around €13 million per month, ranks 4th. After agreeing to reduce his salary to join Catalonia this summer, Joao Felix saw his remuneration increase tenfold (from €400,000 to €4 million) due to his good start to the season.
