In addition to starting a family, the little Italian was able to develop friendships with certain players. In an interview for L’Equipe, the midfielder recognized that the first phase of the QSI project had been the strongest, in his eyes, from a human point of view.
In an interview with L’Equipe, Verratti did not hesitate to mention the names of the players he was closest to. ” We were lucky. There were great players but above all great men. Maxwell, Ibrahimovic, Pastore, Sirigu, Lavezzi… They really helped me. Even today, we are still together. An example: when I arrived in Doha, Pastore (who played at Qatar SC) said to me: “I’m coming with you” and we lived in the same house for ten days.”
“ The first years, we were a very close-knit group. The French, the Italians, the new… It’s also another generation. The locker room problems remained there, we talked to each other. We were friends, we went on vacation together”, continued Verratti, particularly marked by one man in particular.
“ Zlatan brought a lot – I also speak for the club. He brought this conviction, the idea that you should always dream big. Even when we weren’t favorites, Ibra gave everyone the confidence to give their all. This also applied to the club’s employees: he always pushed them to the maximum. It was hard, he could be mean, but in a group, a guy like that makes you grow. Afterwards, there are so many other players… Even Kylian (Mbappé) brought something incredible, on the pitch he took us a notch higher.“.
