Exiled in Qatar after more than a decade at PSG, Marco Verratti returned to the discussion he had with Luis Enrique at the very start of the season.

A page has turned at PSG this summer. Many players had to leave the club and not the least since Lionel Messi, Neymar and Sergio Ramos were invited to look elsewhere. But the most symbolic departure is undoubtedly that of Marco Verratti, pushed out by the Parisian leaders after more than a decade with the Rouge et Bleu. Arriving this summer on the bench of the capital club, Luis Enrique was not counting on him and let him know during a one-on-one discussion during preparation.

“On the restart, I had an interview with the coach, he told me that I was not part of his plans. He’s a great coach, he’s doing good things with PSG. I didn’t see it as a personal decision. I never had enemies in life, I prefer clear things He just wanted to change”explained the Italian midfielder in an interview with L’Equipe, adding: “I think that in football, there are not many “good” reasons. Everyone has their own vision of the game. I think Luis Enrique needed other players. I have nothing against him, we had very good relations. I trained every day to the max, he can’t say anything bad about me. Sometimes there are changes and that’s good too. »

The native of Pescara also spoke of his choice to go into exile in Qatar rather than stay with a major European club despite touches at Barça or Bayern Munich, where he could have found Thomas Tuchel. “I wanted to have a different experience. I didn’t want to go to another team in Europe where I could have faced PSG, he justified. I wanted this to be my last team. I had this proposal in Doha. Certainly the level is not the same but I take other pleasures: helping the championship grow, advising my teammates.”
