Lionel Messi does not deserve to win the Ballon d’Or this year, believes Adrien Rabiot, who supports Kylian Mbappé or Erling Haaland.

Messi is considered one of the favorites to win the award for the eighth time in his career, but Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe and Manchester City striker Haaland are also in the running.

Mbappé helped France reach the World Cup final and scored a hat-trick in the deciding match, while Haaland enjoyed a record-breaking season which saw him win the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup with City.

Messi is considered a leading candidate to win the award for the eighth time in his career after leading Argentina to World Cup victory. The Albiceleste captain scored seven times in the competition, including twice in the final, as his country won the trophy for the first time since 1986.

Since then, he has helped Inter Miami win their first trophy in their history, scoring 10 goals in seven matches and winning the Leagues Cup.

Despite his exploits, Rabiot, the France team and Juventus midfielder, believes that the young attackers are the real favorites.

“I hear a lot of people saying that Messi will win,” he declared to RMC Sport. “But on a sporting level, it will be between Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland. Telling which of these two will be difficult depends on what you base it on. No one ever agrees, but it will be between these two. I exclude everyone else.
