PSG: Luis Enrique is fed up

This is an aspect of Luis Enrique that French journalists are discovering, as Spanish journalists did before them. Luis Enrique is not particularly a fan of the media, and does not hesitate to sometimes appear confrontational or even disrespectful when he appears in front of journalists. After the victory against Stade Rennais (3-1) last weekend, the Iberian coach notably attacked journalist Alexandre Ruiz. A rather strong outing against the journalist from Free Ligue 1 which shocked more than one.

“You only see the negative!” It’s incredible ! To all the interviews! he’s the most negative guy in the history of football! Last time we won 4-1 and he told me we deserved to lose. These gentlemen (he shows Ludovic Giuly and Rio Mavuba, editor’s note) were players. Football is made of circumstances. Young people understand everything, it’s you (Alexandre Ruiz) who understands nothing. That’s what I think when you ask me questions.”, the Parisian coach got carried away. Not a surprise in Spain, where we are used to this type of outing. But in France, it goes quite badly, and the Spaniard is increasingly criticized on this subject.

He expected something else

As the media explains Relevo, Luis Enrique is fed up with the media obligations he has had since becoming head of PSG. Annoyance therefore, he who has never been a fan of this exercise, but also surprise, since he did not expect to have to speak so much with the media during this Parisian adventure. It must be said that in France, the media agenda is tougher for coaches than in Italy or Spain, where he had coached before.

In addition to the traditional pre- and post-match press conferences, in France, he must also speak to television stations which own the rights after the matches. These are therefore often quick reactions, with, logically, more risk of slipping or being a little less measured. Luis Enrique, who prefers to concentrate on the game, was not prepared for all this and was not aware that he was going to have to speak more than usual when signing his contract with PSG. Perhaps we should have found out first…
