While the Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on October 30, debates are intensifying around the future winner. The trio Messi, Haaland and Mbappé seem to emerge as clear favorites and several protagonists close to the PSG player are campaigning for the 24-year-old Frenchman. Positions that displease Christophe Dugarry: “It makes me laugh. You feel like it’s the fake-asses’ ball. Journalists ask the question and you don’t know if they really mean it. You see those who have a certain courage and those who have less! There is no honesty in all this! We ask Deschamps the question but I’m sure he doesn’t give a damn, he shouldn’t offend his player. Already he is not scoring a goal at the moment, he is not very well, he is afraid of offending him so, he is obliged to make a response in between…”first clarified the 1998 World Champion on the airwaves of RMC Sport.

Before continuing: “Don’t make a connection with me and don’t ‘fry’ me with Deschamps. I’m talking about everyone who gives their opinion, friends of friends, those who have an interest. There’s no real honesty in any of this. The Ballon d’Or, we don’t care, it doesn’t interest anyone. There are always discussions, that’s the nature of an election, but when you start having to make friends of friends talk to do a kind of lobbying, it’s because it’s not that obvious and that you don’t necessarily deserve it more than others. Everyone makes me laugh a lot in this kind of merry-go-round, of lobbying…”. For Dugarry, Manchester City’s Norwegian striker Erling Haaland should win the trophy.
