Wayne Rooney is preparing to take charge of an English D2 team.
Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United striker, is about to return to his country for a new challenge as manager. His name is mentioned on the side of Birmingham, a Championship team (English D2).
A new challenge for Rooney
Rooney resigned as DC United manager last Sunday and Birmingham fired John Eustace earlier this week. The timing therefore seems ideal for a collaboration.
According to the Times, Rooney has agreed with the Blues on the personal terms of his commitment. “Wazza” would join St Andrews for a salary of around 33,000 euros per week. Birmingham currently sit sixth in the Championship table. Accession to the Premier League is therefore still possible.
As a reminder, Rooney has already coached in English D2. It was at Derby County. A rather complicated experience, because it resulted in relegation to League One.
