Interviewed in the columns of L’Equipe three weeks after his hasty departure from Olympique de Marseille, Marcelino settled his scores with the Olympian club.

Marcelino will only have moved to Olympique de Marseille. Appointed in June, the Spanish technician left Ciel et Blanc in mid-September after a stormy meeting between Marseille leaders and supporters. And according to him, all the Olympian leaders, Pablo Longoria in the lead, had initially decided to leave the ship.

“I did not make the decision to leave, it was a general decision, given the absolutely reprehensible threats,” launched the former Valencia coach, ensuring that all OM leaders were then in the same state of mind: “Yes, everyone (had made the decision to leave). »

The former midfielder also questions the reasons which prompted Pablo Longoria and the other leaders to review their plans. “When the decision was made… It’s not that we wanted to leave, it’s that the situation was untenable”he said, adding: “You can’t accept threats as normal. So, we made this decision. Then, if Pablo, Pedro (Iriondo, the strategic director), StĂ©phane (Tessier, the administrative and financial director) or Javier (Ribalta, the football director) change their minds, in circumstances that I do not know…”

Marcelino also took the opportunity to launch a tackle at the Marseille club. “(I felt) Very angry, disappointed and sad. We put all our enthusiasm into developing a super attractive project, in a large club. In any case, we thought it was a big club in every sense of the word, Marcelino explained, but these deplorable events demonstrate that it is not as big a club as it would like to be, he indeed indicated. Some radical supporters who want to constantly influence events prevent it from being a big club. »
