Arsenal won in the final minutes of the clash of the 8th day of the Premier League which opposed them on Sunday to Manchester City (1-0). Gabriel Martinelli is the hero on the London side.

It was starting to be a long time ago. A very, very long time, even. For twelve Premier League matches, Arsenal have lost each time against Manchester City. The last time the Gunners had not lost, it was April 2, 2017 (2-2). As for success against Cityzens in the league, we had to go back even further, to December 21, 2015. It was therefore almost eight years later that Arsenal finally returned to success against the winner of the last Champions League since they imposed Sunday on his lawn, thanks to the single goal, late, but so precious, from Gabriel Martinelli (1-0).

Already during the last Community Shield, the Londoners had shown that they could resist the Mancunian ogre since they won on penalties. This weekend, there was fight, commitment and spectacle on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium. First, it was Manchester City who took the game into their own hands, offering a very encouraging, and even worrying, first five minutes for Arsenal. But the locals managed to quickly get their heads above water to get on the level of their opponents. At the break, no goal and only one shot on target in total, to the City’s credit.

Gunners undefeated in the league

Upon returning from the locker room, the situation reversed slowly but surely and the Gunners understood that something was possible. And it was finally on a shot taken from the outside left of the opposing area that Gabriel Martinelli saw his ball deflected by the head of the unfortunate Nathan Aké, the latter wrong-footing his goalkeeper (1-0, 86th). Blow of bamboo on the head Skyblues who will not recover. And it was in a stadium in meltdown like never before that Arsenal validated their success, also inflicting a second defeat in a row on Pep Guardiola’s men in the Premier League.

The operation is doubly perfect for the Londoners since they take advantage of it to pass in front of their victim of the day to find themselves second, tied on points with the leader Tottenham, the same goal difference, but two goals less scored (and therefore two less collected). Also note that they have still not lost a single championship match this season. For City, a reaction is quickly expected.
