Landed this summer at Inter Miami, Lionel Messi could already win an individual trophy thanks to his performances across the Atlantic.

After leaving Barcelona willy-nilly, Lionel Messi experienced two complicated seasons under the colors of PSG, before changing scenery again. At the end of his contract on June 30 with the capital club, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner decided to go into exile in MLS, where he signed up with Inter Miami for two and a half years, i.e. until at the end of 2025.

And after only four matches played in MLS with the Florida franchise – for 1 goal scored and 2 assists delivered – the former Parisian could glean an individual title. Indeed, the 34-year-old striker is among the 30 players nominated for the title of best player (MVP) of the MLS regular season, unveiled Thursday by the North American championship.

The selection of candidates for the MLS Best Player of the Season trophy is made by the franchises that “ determine nominees and may nominate a maximum of two players for certain awards”, explains the championship press release. It is the players, the technical directors of the clubs as well as a selection of local and national media who will vote. These votes will begin on October 10 and close on the 23rd.
