After the victories of Real Madrid and Girona earlier in the day, Sevilla FC hosted Rayo Vallecano in Sanchez-Pizjuan for the 8th day of La Liga. Defeated last week in Barcelona then held to a draw by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, the Andalusian club, sixteenth at kick-off, hoped to return to success to give themselves some air in the standings. At the same time, the club located in the Madrid suburbs intended to continue its current invincibility series (4 matches, 1 victory, 3 draws) in order to get closer to European places.

Away, Rayo Vallecano opened hostilities through Oscar Valentin in the 21st minute of play and showed the way to their Spanish partner, Alvaro Garcia 5 minutes later. At the end of a catastrophic first half hour, José Luis Mendilibar made tactical changes by replacing Fernando with Ivan Rakitic. Returning from the locker room, Djibril Sow allowed Sevilla to reduce the score (1-2, 50th). Throughout the second half, the Andalusian club maintained the pressure on the opposing camp and their efforts were rewarded after added time. On a final corner hit by Ivan Rakitic, Youssef En-Nesyri placed a victorious header leaving Stole Dimitrievski unmoved (2-2, 90+6). If he may harbor regrets, Rayo Vallecano climbs to 7th place in the ranking while Sevilla FC climbs to 13th place.
