The blatant VAR error during the last Tottenham-Liverpool match caused a stir in England. While Luis Diaz found the net, his goal was unfairly disallowed for a non-existent offside position. Since then, Jürgen Klopp has made huge rants, where Ange Postecoglou admitted to not being a big fan of VAR. Worse, according to him, football should be played without this help which breaks the game and ruins the very essence of the game. “I would, in its current form. I just don’t think this technology is ready for our game.”he said when asked if he would get rid of VAR.

“I just think our game is unique and I know people say, ‘Well, let’s let the refs explain their decisions.’ Oh my God. Seriously ? Can you imagine sitting there listening to a referee explain every decision in the match. I’m going to the football field on Sunday, I love it, I love American football. It’s three and a half hours, buddy. Do you want to sit for three and a half hours? I just think with VAR at the moment we think it’s going to eliminate (mistakes) and the more we use it the worse it’s going to get. That was there for the clear and obvious error. It seems like everything now. Yellow cards, fouls, corners, everything is scrutinized. It’s not our game. We’re not rugby, we don’t have saves. What I always loved about England was the frenetic pace of football.” Words that stand up for a debate that will continue to divide.
