Despite average results, the clubs involved in the European Cups have made it possible to further reduce the gap with the Netherlands in the race for fifth place in the UEFA index.

After a particularly successful first week, French clubs have marked time on the European front. The most striking example is obviously that of PSG, swept away by Newcastle in the Champions League (4-1). But in the Europa League, Stade Rennais also lost (1-0) to Villarreal, Martin Terrier missing the equalizing penalty in added time.

Conversely, a few hours earlier, Olympique de Marseille, which was leading 2-0, was caught in the last minutes on… a penalty while Lille was unable to do better than a sad 0-0 on the pitch. from KI Klaksvik, in the Faroe Islands. Fortunately, Toulouse was there to bring the French clubs’ second victory after that of RC Lens against Arsenal, dominating LASK (1-0).

However, despite these two meager victories for two draws and two defeats, France has further closed its gap on the Netherlands. Consequence of the poor results of Dutch clubs who had to be content with a victory thanks to Alkmaar for two draws, PSV in the Champions League and Ajax Amsterdam in the Europa League, and a defeat for Feyenoord. Above all, while France still has all its representatives, the points acquired by the four Dutch clubs are divided by five (the number of entrants at the start of the season).

France therefore scored 1 point this week compared to 0.8 for the Netherlands and is now only 1.669 points behind its rival while the gap was 2.769 points at the start of the group stage.
