Former Marseille player Samir Nasri gave his opinion on Gennaro Gattuso and his chances of relaunching OM.
Arriving in Marseille a week ago, Gennaro Gattuso has not yet succeeded in helping the Olympian team win. The defeat against Monaco in the league was followed by a frustrating draw against Brighton in the Europa League (2-2). Enough to wonder if management made the right choice in appointing him to the technical helm.
“Gattuso cannot revolutionize everything”
This question was asked to Samir Nasri, the club’s former midfielder. The latter did not want to comment now. He was of the opinion to be patient with the Italian coach. “We have to give Gattuso time, he said on Canal+. A coach cannot arrive after a week and revolutionize everything.”
For the former French international, the Marseille team is still carrying the after-effects of the crisis which affected it in September: “The first week, we play a little on the psychological springs to try to find something and make them surpass themselves. But this team is sick and we could see it in 2e half-time against Brighton when OM fell back enormously. I think the result is a good result for them when you see the opportunities.”
Marseille therefore settled for a draw against the Seagulls. Nasri believes that it could have been worse given the face given by Rongier and others after the break: “There is a physical problem and also a mental problem. This team is sick. We could see it when Brighton started to play their game and chain passes, immediately the Marseillais started to be in difficulty. Without a great Pau Lopez, they would even have bowed.”
