OM did not hold

Despite two goals in advance, OM were unable to overcome Brighton on Thursday evening during the second day of the Europa League group stage (2-2).

We thought they were cured for the duration of a meeting. But the difficult first period of the Marseille players masked a slack exploited by Brighton. OM first achieved an almost ideal start at home in this second day of the Europa League at the end of two intense minutes.

Mbemba (1-0, 19e) then Veretout (2-0, 20e) took back crosses from the right, the side of a Clauss still in his legs. And then as this OM is sick, he let Brighton get back into the match while the English team was glaringly weak on the Marseille pitch.

Fortunately, Pau Lopez remembered that he could sometimes be decisive. On three occasions, he took away a goal from the Seagulls (42e45e+1.73e) but was powerless on Gross’ dry, point-blank shot (2-1, 54e).

And what we feared happened, given the increasing difficulties of Marseillais to exist in duels during the second half. Clauss hooked Lamptey in the area and Joao Pedro converted the penalty without trembling four minutes from the end of regulation time (2-2, 86e).

OM have not won since August 26, in all competitions, and Gennaro Gattuso did not properly celebrate his first at the Vélodrome on the Marseille bench.

The Italian coach intends to make up for it this Sunday against Le Havre, still at home (8e day of League 1).
