Retired star admits he lied and claimed he supported FC Barcelona instead in order to sign there.
“Footballers lie, we lie all the time”admitted Rio Ferdinand on his show Vibe with Five, after former FC Barcelona and Las Palmas striker Kevin Prince Boateng made a surprising revelation.
Boateng was FC Barcelona’s surprise signing in 2019, where he was loaned for six months from Sassuolo. The Ghanaian-German was part of the Blaugrana’s endless quest for a backup striker capable of coming into play in place of Luis Suarez.
The now-retired Hertha Berlin icon admitted that although he supported his local team, Real Madrid was the other team of his childhood.
Boateng admits he lied and claimed he was instead supporting FC Barcelona in order to sign there. “I think anyone would have done the same thing, I wanted to put on this jersey once at the Camp Nou.” He also explains that the press officer asked him several things.
He describes this as “one of the biggest lies he ever told,” and that if before he had said that Cristiano Ronaldo was the best player in the world, he was forced to say that Lionel Messi was the best in the galaxy.
