Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is not worried about striker Erling Haaland and is confident he will repeat his exploits from last season.
During City’s last meeting, Haaland did not score a single goal with the Eastlands club, beaten 2-1 by Wolves. The Norway international has missed several chances since the start of the new campaign. Guardiola was also questioned about the striker’s lack of efficiency in front of goal, but is not worried.
“He had a lot of opportunities to score goals. It becomes more difficult with five defenders, within 18 meters, but not just for him, for any player in the world“, he told reporters. “ If you see the chances he had and the goals he scored, he is at the same level as last season.
Haaland scored 52 goals in his record-breaking first season at Manchester City, when Guardiola’s side won the treble. It will be difficult to match those numbers this time around, but no one would bet against Haaland being the season’s top scorer again.
The former Dortmund player hopes to regain his sense of goal this Wednesday against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. The striker scored five goals in the last meeting between the two teams in Europe’s most prestigious competition last March.
