FC Barcelona coach Xavi has subtly attacked Diego Simeone by insisting Joao Felix is finally “able to develop his talent”.
Since being loaned out by Atlético Madrid on transfer deadline day, Felix has instantly made a splash at FC Barcelona.
The Portuguese striker has already scored three goals and provided two assists in six appearances for the Catalan jersey, which has not failed to impress Xavi. The Spanish manager praised the 23-year-old while subtly lashing out at his former manager, Simeone, at Atlético Madrid. Xavi said Felix was now playing in the best possible position to “improve” his impact in the final third of the pitch.
Speaking to reporters, Xavi said: “Joao Felix? In summary, he is happy, very happy, he benefits from a position which allows him to showcase his talent, he takes care of the team and all his talent is highlighted. He is supportive and generous and that is why things go well for him.
Felix left Atlético in January 2023 to join Chelsea on a six-month loan, but he failed to establish himself in England, scoring just four times in 20 appearances as the Blues finished in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Simeone made it clear that Felix was not part of his plans to return to Atlético, and the striker then pushed to join Barca, who have secured his services for the duration of the 2023-24 campaign .
