The French team has lost one of its own. Selected three times for the Blues between 1979 and 1981, Patrice Lecornu died this Tuesday. He was only 65 years old.
Three months almost to the day after the disappearance of Christian Dalger, another former French international from the 70s and 80s has passed away. Tuesday, the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) announced the death of Patrice Lecornu, at the age of sixty-five. Playing as a right winger, the player who played for Red Star, Angers and Nantes in particular, was selected three times for the Blues, notably during a friendly match against Brazil (defeat, 1-3).
The native of Flers (Orne) could have had a longer career, but a knee injury contracted during his second and final stint at Red Star in 1984 forced him to hang up his boots prematurely. In 190 matches with his different clubs, Patrice Lecornu will have scored a total of thirty goals.
Trainer at Red Star and PSG
After his playing career, Patrice Lecornu devoted himself to training. At Red Star, he notably took care of players such as Steve Marlet and Khalilou Fadiga. He then took over the management of Paris Saint-Germain to initially manage the training center, before becoming the coach of the CFA team.

Several former players reacted with sadness to this disappearance. On social networks, Charles Itandje, for example, wrote: “ Thank you for believing in US Patrice. Rest in peace. » Fousseni Diawara also posted a message: “ Patrice was much more than a trainer, he was a mentor and a source of inspiration for us at Red Star. His legacy will live on through the players he developed and the memories he created. Thank you for everything Patrice.“
