This is the controversy of the moment in England. This weekend, during the duel between Tottenham and Liverpool won by Spurs (2-1), the referee of the match Simon Hooper canceled a goal to Luis Suarez. The Colombian, however, was not offside. In an official statement, the PGMOL, which brings together English referees, made statements recognizing the error.
“As indicated shortly after the final whistle on Saturday evening, we acknowledged in a statement that a significant human error had occurred during the above-mentioned match, which we acknowledge should have resulted in a goal being awarded thanks to a VAR intervention. As with all goal situations, the VAR team checked all aspects of the goal. After the on-field officials disallowed the goal for offside, the verification phase and process began and was carried out correctly by VAR. The selection of the kick point was precise and the use of a single 2D line on the foot of the second most rear defender was also correctly positioned”, we can read. The audio of the VAR can also be viewed on the Premier League website.
