Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde has revealed that his struggles last season were the toughest he has faced, after going through a difficult time off the pitch.
The Uruguayan midfielder returned from the World Cup with his pregnant wife and, a few weeks later, was told that a birth defect risked serious difficulties for their child, or even loss of him. Fortunately, tests carried out a few weeks later revealed that the baby would be born healthy.
Ahead of Real Madrid’s match against Napoli, Valverde was asked about how he handled the situation.
“Personally, I won’t remember it because it was a difficult time. I don’t wish it on anyone, but these are the things in life that get in the way. It’s part of life, I tried“I had to concentrate on football, on the World Cup… and it didn’t go as I hoped.”
“The Copa del Rey was a very good end, which helped me to forget a little of everything I had experienced. I have matured as a person and, even though there are times you don’t expect, you have to move forward. Being with our family, with those we love, is what gives us that little extra to continue to have confidence in life.
